life is good!
we're starting clinicals soon! :) quite excited at the prospect of coming yet another step closer to becoming a doctor. so far it's been just studying and exams, so much so that it's been a bit difficult to hold the big picture in mind. it's partly because we have to give so much attention to all the nitty-gritties of everything we are taught, that studying sometimes becomes a chore. with the reality so far removed from the usual notion of a vibrant university life, it's easy to lose sight of what's ahead and wind up grumbling about life all the time.but now, when i think about how a new chapter in my education is about to begin....i'm suddenly brought back to the time of application for med, the essay test and interviews. i'm reminded again of why i set down this path in the first place; because i'd convinced my interviewers that my place was in medicine, which i'd believed for years, and still do. this helps set things into perspective. so for the years ahead, i'm determined to push myself harder than for the past 1+ years.
on a lighter note, just had a trip back to malaysia...left very early friday morning (6+am!!) and got back today about 1pm. it's been an awfully long time since we last stayed there for more than two days. went back to 扫墓, visit relatives, chat, sit around, relax and generally just enjoy life. was a surprisingly enjoyable stay, because there wasn't all the rushing about to do things and rushing to get back that's normally part of the trip back. also, kid cousins are much cuter now :D
one of the highlights of the trip was that we made cushions from scratch to fill up our new cushion covers at home haha :) bought cotton wool and cloth, had my aunt make the thing for us to stuff (i'm eternally grateful for whoever invented the sewing machine), and stuffed all the six cushions till they were bursting with all the fluff! and since some people are strong believers in buying a bit more instead of coming up short, we had so much cotton wool left over that we managed to make a bolster for me :D the only lowdown of all this fun is that i managed to feed a million mosquitoes in the process. the pest bites are so numerous that if i absolutely had to count them i'll have to write a number on each of the flaring red spots so that i won't lose count :(
now i'll have to go off to bed. have to be in school by 7am tmr (the terrible dean's office!) so i have to wake at 5+. and with malay lessons on top of all the lectures etc tmr, i end at 7pm! better pack enough sweets so stave off hunger during lectures (and also to perk me up), and some plasters for the inevitable blisters that come with new shoes! :)
