back from taiwan! (taiwan part 1)

just got back from taiwan with my family a few days back! trip was from 28 may to 3 june, and we went from northern bit of taiwan (taipei area) down to the middle of taiwan and back up again. this is the rough itinerary accompanied with pictures!

day 1: got to taipei (flight was surprisingly short, only about 4 hours) and went to chiang kai-shek memorial hall, which is kinda like a small museum, detailing the life of taiwan's first (i think) president, with pics of his family, pics with other politicians, info about treaties signed, sedans he was carried in etc. later on we went to yeliu 野柳, which is a national scenic area (they call it 国家风景区) with some really interesting rock formations.

some pics coming up!

this is one of the two entrances to the memorial hall. picture kinda foggy cos of rain :( in the far background are just some other buildings in taipei.

these are some pics of the jade carvings on display at the memorial hall (why they are there is beyond me, probably donations from artists la) too bad about the glass casings though.

first one is erm...copulating insects... second is some other insect...

this shows ants..it's intricate!

here are some pics of yeliu with its rock formations, check it out!

this is an empress' head...kinda egyptian i think heh...fairy's slipper on the right

just appreciate the rocks :)

the upcoming mediacorp show CID or something is filmed partially at this site..you'll see some of these formations!

day 2: we went to this leofoo village (六福村) which is actually a theme park at one side and a safari at another side. too bad it was raining though, so we couldn't go on some of the most thrilling rides. here's a pic of the park from the outside:

anybody reminded of agrabah? ^_^ (ie where aladdin lives)

pics of my favourite animals!

dignified ducks! white rhinos...they're huge!!

lamb i think...so cute!

big hairy lummox? :P pretty giraffe on the right!!

again! within arm's reach...wow

after going on all the rides we could and going thru the safari, we took the coach to central taiwan to this 日月潭 which is actually a huge lake. there were a few islands in the middle in the past but they sank during an earthquake.

if you look closely you can see the tiny island..

day 3: we went to 阿里山 which is actually a mountain range consisting of 18 mountains (according to some website). it's got beautiful scenery, and a lot of trees in cute shapes! there's one shaped like a pig/cow depending on how you look at it, there's one in a shape of a heart! and there's a three-generation tree. here they are!

the beautiful scenery! i especially love the second one, when the mountain peaks rise above the clouds...so pretty!!

the pig/cow and the heart shape!

ok i'm quite tired of posting all those pictures for today...will continue tmr~!
